There are 3 main catagories of tools available in an LMS

record keeping
assessememet

Organizing is the creating a consistent way of communicating to the student. The decision of how this is going to happen must be made at the beginnnig of the course and then followed for the duration of the course. This is helpful to students as they will know what to expect each day and be able to follow along. Some of the tools for this are announcements, study guides, calendars, assignment lists, tests, drop boxes, navagation tools.

Record keeping is very important in education. We are called upon more and more for our accountability. As with Organization, discisions must be made on how this is going to happen and then follow through for the duration of the course. Gradebook, Single assignment grading, Comments on the grades, averages, drop boxes are all part of this catagory

The last catagory is assmessment and it closely follows the other two catagories. The student should have formative and summative assessments as well as a way to differiate. Recovery assignments should also be part of the plan. The tools used to do this are dropboes, gradebook, Comments, grouping of students, due dates posted.
